Eyelid Plastic

Eyelid Plastic

The eyes are very important for our appearance and express how we feel. As you age, your skin loses its elasticity due to changes in the connective tissue. Genetic factors in younger people can produce the same effect.
The upper eyelids begin to ‘hang’ and the eyes become ‘constantly tired’. The excess skin can in some cases interfere with the visual fields. Impaired elasticity of the skin and connective tissue can cause dark lines, ‘pillows’ or even ‘bags’ under the eyes. These are caused by excess skin in combination with small accumulations of fat. ‘Cushions’ in younger people are caused by a local excess fat and can be removed through the inside of the eyelid. Eyelid surgery is one of the most common aesthetic procedures in both men and women.

What is important is that the result is natural and does not look ‘operated’. It is important that the eye retains its natural form. The disadvantage of some techniques is that the eye gets a too ’round’ (and thus unnatural) appearance. In a detailed consultation, we talk about your wishes and conditions and what the procedure means.

The surgery

The procedure (upper or lower eyelids) is performed under local anesthesia, possibly in combination with a sedative. The anesthetic fluid is treated and adjusted so that you feel as little as possible of the anesthetic syringe. During surgery, the excess skin is removed. In most cases, some of the fat that is around the eyes is also removed.

Every person is unique. Within the scope of existing surgical techniques, each eyelid plastic requires a tailor-made solution. Information about, and questions about, the procedure is discussed extensively during the consultation. We also talk about your health. It is important to know if you are using medicines, especially medicines with a blood thinning effect.

After the surgery

After the operation, you stay with us for as long as needed. The skin around the eyes is cooled with special ice glasses to reduce swelling and bruising as much as possible. The area around the eyes can feel tender and you can also experience a faint “burning” feeling. We strongly advise against driving a car directly after the operation and suggest that transport home is arranged in advance. Despite ice glasses, you can expect some swelling and bruising for a week, sometimes longer (up to two weeks). You get patches around the eyes and the stitches are taken after about 6 days.

Contact lenses cannot be worn during the first week. You should also avoid intense physical activity during the first ten days. When you go home after an operation, you always receive a return card with a telephone number to the clinic and to the surgeon so you can reach us around the clock.
Your specialist doctor will listen and consult with you before your eyelid surgery and tailor it to your needs.

Before the operation

The first time you visit us, you get to meet an experienced information nurse who listens to your wishes, goes through the operation and answers your questions.

You will, among other things, get information about the procedure itself and what you can expect, what it costs and how long the waiting time is. You can also fill out a questionnaire about your health condition, any past illnesses and surgeries. We also talk about your expectations. This first visit is always free of charge.

If you choose to proceed, we will book an operating time and a consultation time with one of our plastic surgeons.

Consultation is important. We carefully review your health condition and any medicines you take. It provides an opportunity to talk extensively about all aspects of the operation. You can try a number of different types and models of implants with your plastic surgeon. The end goal is that the result is completely in line with your expectations.

It is good if you prepare for the surgery by staying fit and finding out as much as possible about what applies before, during and after the surgery. For the operation to be as good as possible, you should be on a body mass index (BMI) below 30.

Smoking impairs the oxygen supply to the tissue and in turn delays the wound healing process. It also increases the risk of complications and you should therefore be smoke-free 6 weeks before the operation and until the wound is healed.

We are always on hand to answer your questions.

On the day of surgery, you will meet your surgeon. He / she photographs the area of operation if this is not done in conjunction with the consultation.

The procedure is done in local anesthesia in combination with a sedative. The surgery takes about 1-5 hours depending on which body or parts you want to operate. You go home the same day.

that’s how it goes

If you want to book a time for surgery, you can do so after the consultation. Sometimes you want to think about the matter and then call and book a time. Once you have decided and booked an operation time you will receive information material from us. There is comprehensive information and instructions about the procedure and what to think about before, during and after the clinic stay.

Prior to surgery

On the day of surgery, you meet your surgeon, who draws on you. You have the opportunity to ask additional questions if needed. You will be photographed.

The length of the operation depends on the procedure being performed as well as its extent. Prior to the surgery, you will receive pain relief for preventative purposes and also some sedative medicine. The procedure is then essentially painless either in local anesthesia or anesthesia.

After surgery

If the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, you will be able to stand on your own legs and go home, but not drive your own car. Should you need to rest further at the clinic there is of course that possibility.

If the procedure is performed in anesthesia, you will be rested in one of our awakening rooms. Our employees will take good care of you so that you feel safe with us. It is important to keep in mind that you are not allowed to drive your car home after the procedure.

After surgery

As a rule, prescription drugs such as Panodil and Ipren are sufficient as pain relief when you get home.

Before returning home, you will receive a return card with a telephone number to the clinic and to the plastic surgeon who has performed the operation so that you can reach us around the clock.

One of our nurses will call and hear how you feel 1-2 days after returning home.

After about 2 weeks you will return for a postoperative check. After a week most people can start working and after 3-6 weeks you can start exercising. Before that, we recommend quiet walks.

It is normal for the surgical areas to be swollen for a long time and in some cases it may take 2-3 months before all swelling has settled. Bruises in the skin are also common and harmless but take a few weeks before they fade. To reduce swelling, you should have compression straps in the areas after surgery, first time around the clock for about 4 weeks and then a few more days during the day. The compression treatment also contributes to a good result. Despite refined techniques in liposuction, irregularities and pitting can occur in the skin and this must be aware of. Before the operation, you and your surgeon must have carefully gone through expectations and realistic results.
